Whenever I cut my cardstock to make cards and other papercraft projects I end up with little strips of leftover pieces.
When I first started as an independent Stampin' Up! demonstrator I didn't have a lot of cardstock so I saved every little piece of paper because I thought I might find a use for them . . .
and I have found lots of ways to use my leftover pieces.
I have layered them on a card front to make an interesting background and then I decorated it with die cut flowers, leaves and a punched sentiment.
My daughter die cut through layers of cardstock to make an cute tag for her school lanyard.
You can make a unique card by gluing different sized strips of coloured cardstock on a card front and then stamp it with an image. Just make sure the colours aren't too dark for the image you're stamping.
I've made quick and easy cards by gluing scraps of Designer Series Paper onto a card base and just adding a sentiment.
I wove together some black and white scrap pieces to make an interesting background for a stylish birthday card.
I've even used scrap pieces to add colour behind a die cut shape and to create a Christmas decoration.
I always end up with lots of strips of white cardstock which are the perfect size to create sentiment banners. I added some gold gilding to the space between the sentiment pieces tomake this card shine!
You can even create a theme for your cards by carefully selecting the type of sentiments you choose.
For my butterfly card I chose encouraging and loving sentiments which would make it a great Valentine's Day card.
I made a video showing how to use the Itty Bitty Birthdays stamp set to make a colourful birthday card decorated with a hummingbird from the Touch of Ink stamp set.
So next time you have scraps of cardstock remember to keep them, because you can create a wide range of interesting cards!
There are so many fabulous new products in the January - June 2021 Mini Catalogue that I didn't know where to start to play. Then I saw a cute video on YouTube showing how to make a 2-way sliding card with snail and mushroom images so I had to give it a try myself with the new Snail Mail Suite of products from Stampin' Up!
The internal mechanism was simple enough -- a bit of thick cardstock and a piece of plastic -- which allows two images to move from opposite directions (2-ways). However choosing where to place the scene for the front of the card took me all day!
I used the Friendly Silhouettes and Curvy Dies to create the garden/grass scene along with the Subtle Embossing Folder. I stamped the sentiment from the Quite Curvy photopolymer stamp set because I could adjust it to fit the top corner of my card.
The first card I made, I fussy cut images from the Snail Mail Designer Series Paper. I could have used the Snail Dies to cut out two of the images but I find it relaxing fussy cutting DSP in the evenings while the TV is on.
I used an image of packages to cover the pull lever and stamped the mushroom image on the inside of the card which I coloured using Stampin' Blends.
I then recreated the card for an instructional video using the Snail Dies to create mushrooms for the front of the card.
In my video I explain how I got the different coloured mushrooms using the Snail Dies. I even used two little die cut mushrooms for the pull tab to make the snails move.
The inside of this card used the same mushroom stamp as my first card but I stamped and die cut the image on separate cardstock before adhering it to the inside.
I used the mushrooms to hide the smaller snail behind a hillside and cover up some gaps in my Old Olive cardstock.
I used Tuxedo Black Memento Ink to stamp the sentiments and snails for this card because I coloured them with Stampin' Blends pens.

I think this technique would work great on lots of designs and I'm already thinking of what 2-Way Slider Card I'll make next!
Today is the first day of New Zealand's nationwide shutdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and I decided to make the most of my hibernation by creating videos each day. Yes, I said hibernation because I think the words isolation and lockdown sound too negative. Hibernation sounds more positive and better reflects the fact that I am going to sleep late, eat as much as I want, stay in my pyjamas all day and be a grumpy old bear if someone comes to my door!
Now is a perfect time to get my craft on by creating lots of cards and other papercrafts I have been wanting to make. Since I can't teach classes in my home at the moment I have decided to teach everyone for free via YouTube!
I had already made a Honey Bee spinner card sample for an upcoming class which has now been cancelled, so I re-created the spinner card using the Little Ladybug stamps.
The designer series paper I used on both cards is a free Sale-A-Bration item, so if you want some you'll need to place a qualifying order by March 31st.
The ladybug card uses the Flowering Foils Specialty Designer Series Paper and the bee card uses the Golden Honey Specialty Designer Series Paper.
Making a spinner card is fairly easy if you have the Layered Circle Dies. Just cut two different size circles in the middle of your cardstock and you are halfway there!
Stick a couple mini dimensionals on top of each other and attach them to a little circle (I used the 1/2" circle punch) and place it in the gap between the two die cut circles. Then attach your spinning image (ladybug or bee) to the dimensionals on the little circle.
I decorated the Whisper White front of the cards with images from the coordinating stamp sets and coloured them in -- Watercolor Pencils on the bee card and Stampin' Blends on the ladybug card. Then I popped them up on the front of the card bases using dimensionals, being careful not to impede the movement of the little spinner circle.
For the beehive I stamped it in Versamark ink and then heat embossed it with gold powder. I added some shimmer to the bee wings with a little Wink of Stella. The inside of the card was decorated simply with a sentiment and a large bee cut from the dies in Basic Black cardstock. I coloured the body of the bee with a Daffodil Delight watercolor pencil.
I decorated the inside of the ladybug card by using the four little ladybug stamp multiple times around the edge of the Whisper White cardstock before colouring them with Stampin' Write markers in Real Red and Petal Pink.
